In general, there are several main types of helium:
- technical (99.8%);
- high purity (99.9999%)
- type B (99.99%)
- helium type A (helium content in this type is not less than 99.995%).

Due to the small volume fraction of impurities (not more than 005%), gaseous helium of type A undergoes further purification, which contributes to the expansion of its scope. Unlike helium type B, which due to the higher content of impurities can not be purified to the desired characteristics, therefore it is very limited in use.

The process of searching for helium of type B (as well as other types) and its extraction is rather complicated: at first helium is extracted from natural gas by the method of deep cooling, having been thoroughly cleaned of impurities.
Then the obtained condensate undergoes further purification, on the degree of which the type of helium depends:
- high purity (with a helium content of 99.9999%);
- type A (99.995%);
- helium type B (99.99%)
- technical (99.8%).
Helium (type B) should not be confused with technical: it is cleaner. We can say that high-purity helium is a product of class lux, type A is the first type, type B helium is the second, and technical is the third.
